What is a wow story?

wow is an acronym that I created to help children to remember a simple story structure.

  1. the story has a main character, the w ants something. This is the beginning of history.
  2. There is a O bustad that comes in the way to the main sign. This is the middle of the story.
  3. the main sign either w ins or loses. This is the end of history.

How to create wow stories

  1. Choose a main sign.This can be a person, an animal or even an object: for example a boy, a grandmother, a football star, a sock or a brush!
  2. decide what the main character wants. What could be a brush? Something paint with? Belong to a famous artist? Try unexpected ideas. A grandmother could drive a motorcycle!
  3. decide what will bring the desire of the main sign in the way. Brainstorming many obstacles and decide which the fun is or is the most fun. Obstacles can be easy. A rabbit wants to eat grass on a hill, but a tiger lives on this slope. The tiger is the obstacle. A boy wants a new bike, but his father says no. His father is the obstacle. Obstacles can also be emotions. What if a girl wants skating, but she is afraid she will fall down? Fear is her obstacle.
  4. decide how / if the main character "will win or lose". Does your main character have what he or she wants to end? How?

WOW stories write or perform

write or dictate your story: write your stories on paper. Or make a book by wrinking and collapsing the pages. If your child did not learn how to write, ask him or she to tell you the story and write the word for word.

Act your story: For reluctant writers, try to suspend the story first. After connecting the basics for a certain WOW story with the above steps, they act the story. Choose a narrator that tells the story and offers clues for the actors. This can be the job of the parent or child. The narrator should be very clear and say "the end" so everyone knows when the story is over. After the expression of stories, the child may be more interested in writing them down.
