This guide has been created to take you to a step-by-step process to develop a speech. It is mainly focused on helping you in brainstorming, and defining a topic to explore.

This is a general guide so that you can vary from your class tasks. See however on your professor and the curriculum for your project requirements.

Consider these questions:

• Which subjects or ideas are interested?
• What kind of life experience do you have?
• What kinds of problems do you or people who have interested you have affected?
• Do you have a passion about an idea, a question, a topic? How can you explain or describe it, so that others could be passionate?
• Does your topic have a border? Does the topic have passionate supporters and opponents as well as logical and appropriate? Is it questionable? Is it an unsolved problem?

A good practice is to create a list of ideas. As an example, here is an imaginary student list of ideas:

mystery / crime books & television broadcasts
Recycling and pollution
Criminal justice
Knitting
Coffee
Informatik
Parents own small business
Homeschooled to college

With the topics on your list, ask yourself these questions:

• Which topics are your time most valuable?
• Why is your topic significant?
• does it work with my job? (Is your language informative, convinced, etc.)

It is often beneficial (unless the topic is given or encouraged) to avoid strongly discussed topics. This helps to keep the speech interesting instead of giving an audience you hear regularly.

practiced topics may abortion, global warming, positive action, death penalty, recycling and gender and violence in the media. There is always the possibility to find an interesting angle or part of the topic, but make sure that you first check it with a professor.

Let's take the list of the student as an example. Our student may not want to write a speech in relation to recycling, but maybe you have a great way to reuse / to remakers, which is usually gorgeous. This could work as a topic for a demonstration speech, even though they have approved the topic.

One way to develop these ideas is to create a concept card. Below you will find a sample of the student concept card when you focus on knitting.

Now this special student enjoys secrets and crime shows because you like to find out who the perpetrator is. The student must write an informative speech and decides that they could inform others about how to solve secrets.

Since it is a huge topic, the student decides to focus on helping people to solve secrets by informing them on how to say that someone is saying .
